You can't just stand there and expect things to change!
Accountability is about showing up for commitments we've made and performing in the way we said we would. Knowing that is only half the battle. Doing it is actually much more of a challenge.
I let myself down over the past couple months and in doing so it's possible that I may have let some of you down too. I forget that there are others who may be drawing motivation - even a little inspiration - from what I've been sharing here. And I stopped sharing. I apologize to all of us for that.
It's been five weeks since my last post and I'd like to explain what happened. It wasn't because I was too busy. That might leave me feeling better. But no, it was because I wasn't walking the talk. In the last couple of months I somehow allowed myself to digress and I ended up gaining back about twelve pounds. I didn't like myself very much while that was happening because I knew it was in my control to address it.
I could blame the holidays for the abundance of sweets. I could blame the weather and darkness for my lack of walks. I could blame a lot of things. But it's all up to me. The environment doesn't matter if I focus on my reason for wanting better health. I'm the only one accountable for how much effort I make.
Two weeks ago I was invited by the PEMCO Wellness Committee to write a testimonial for the company newsletter. They said I was an excellent example for others in the company. I accepted, despite knowing that I was struggling with my commitment while I wrote it. Maybe that's what it took for me to get back in line.
In order to write the article, I had to revisit my purpose and my "why." I needed to remember that it's about having a life that enables my grandchildren to know me in a way that I never knew either of my grandfathers. I want to be healthy and alive for them so I'm recommitting to the healthy edge journey. Today is another beginning.
