Week 33- 04/19/12
Parade of family, friends and food
Last week my wife Cindy had breast cancer surgery. Not the ideal way to lose weight, to say the least. (Nice that she hasn't lost her sense of humor though).
As a result of her surgery, there will be an extended period of recovery and I was fortunate to be able to be at home supporting her for the first full week. Something that I truly appreciate.
As you might expect there are ups and downs during a time like this - with many of them being emotional swings during which we turn to comfort food for... well, comfort! It would be easy for Cindy and I to completely blow our weight release commitments and forgive ourselves for eating less wisely and adding pounds back to our frames.
But enter our friends and family.
Over the past week we've had countless visits from people who care about us. Some sent beautiful and delicious fruit bouquets. Others brought salads, dinners and healthy snacks. We are so blessed to be supported in so many ways by so many people. We've enjoyed every delivery, drop off, and visit. And we're certainly enjoying the food. We aren't counting calories for a few weeks. We are compensating by monitoring our portion sizes and the pace that we enjoy what has been prepared for us. So far so good.... in oh so many ways.
Thanks everyone.
